FAQs

Answers for common Therapy Place questions

Do we need a referral to make an appointment?

No, we do not need a referral to see your child. You can call and make an appointment yourself if you are concerned about your child’s development.

Can I claim a Medicare Rebate?

Yes, you can claim a Medicare rebate for our services however there will be a gap in payment which will depend on the type of Medicare referral you have received. Speech Therapists and Dietetics can be claimed under an Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC). Under an EPC you are eligible for 5 allied health sessions per year. OT can be claimed under an EPC or a Mental Health care plan. Under a Mental Health Care plan you can claim up to 20 sessions per year. Both referrals can be provided by your GP or Paediatrician.

Do you have a waiting list?

At present, we do have a waiting list for all services. The length of the wait depends on what day and time you are available and what service you are after. The best way to know is to speak to our intake team and they will give you an approximate timeframe.

Can you help me apply for NDIS?

Navigating NDIS can be tricky. We are happy to assist you, whether you need help filling out the initial paperwork or need a report to support your application.

Do you do home/school visits?

We will go where your child needs us! We are able to support your child at school, kinder, childcare and in the home. Sometimes, even if you have sessions in the clinic, we will recommend a visit to your child’s kinder/school to help identify issues or recommend strategies to help them in their natural environment. We are available to attend meetings including NDIS and school meetings in order to support and advocate for your child.

Are you open on the weekend?

No, we operate Monday to Friday only.

Am I required to attend the session?

At all times we require a parent/guardian to remain on site for legal purposes. We also firmly believe that the best way to help your child is to teach you to implement the strategies we use in the home. To do this we need you in the session. However, in some cases children respond better without the parent present and we will work with this, providing detailed notes and descriptions to you following the session.

What if I need to cancel a session?

Our sessions are always booked in advance and are held for your child. If you are unable to attend a session we ask that you let us know with 2 working days notice to avoid a cancellation charge. If your child is sick and you provide a medical certificate, we will also waive the fee. Our cancellation policy is provided to every family at the time of booking however if you unsure of our policy please speak to our friendly admin team who will provide you with a copy.

I am not happy with the service and I wish to make a complaint. What do I do?

We value open communication and want every child and family to feel accepted and supported. If in any way you are unhappy with a service that has been provided or even feel that a therapist is not a good fit for your child, we would love to know so we can rectify the issue. Most problems can be solved with a simple phone call so please feel free to call the office and speak to either Fiona or Stephanie, the clinic directors and we will do our best to find a solution!
